The AMBA faces extreme heat and the SMN warns that high temperatures will continue until Thursday: how to take care of yourself

The extreme heat continues to affect the AMBA and the National Meteorological Service (SMN) maintains a yellow alert for the metropolitan region.

After the thermometer reached 35.1 degrees on Monday, high temperatures persisted this Tuesday the 13th.

A yellow level alert for extreme heat indicates that the temperatures may have mild to moderate effects on the general health of the AMBA population.

In this context, the SMN urges taking precautions against the heat. This applies especially to vulnerable groups such as children, adults over 65 years old, and people with chronic illnesses.

Record Temperatures and Stifling Heat Index

Although the maximum forecast for this Monday in the AMBA was 31.5 degrees, which was met, the heat index was even more intense, reaching 37.7 degrees at the peak of the day.

On this Tuesday, the extreme heat did not improve in the AMBA: at 1 PM, the temperature reached 32.1 degrees, close to the 33 forecasted as the maximum.

Furthermore, the heat index reached 34.3 degrees, creating adverse weather conditions for outdoor activities.

The forecast for the AMBA indicates that the high temperatures will continue at least until Wednesday, with a maximum expected of 33 degrees.

Relief is expected only on Thursday with the arrival of showers and isolated storms that could cool down the metropolitan environment.

Storms on the Atlantic Coast and Weather Alert in Different Provinces

In addition to the extreme heat in the AMBA, the SMN issued a yellow alert for storms for the Buenos Aires Atlantic Coast.

Precipitation, electrical activity, and wind gusts are expected, which could complicate outdoor activities in tourist locations.

This affects key tourist cities in the middle of the summer season such as Mar del Plata, Pinamar, or Villa Gesell.

Additionally, the climatic outlook in Argentina also shows various alerts active in several regions of the country.

Yellow alert for heat

Storms and severe phenomena are expected to affect areas in the north and center, with possible intense rains, hail, and gusts.

Meanwhile, wide areas of Cuyo, northern Argentina, and the Litoral will record high temperatures these days, with active warnings of extreme heat in some provinces.

Recommendations for Extreme Heat

Specialists issued a series of recommendations to cope with the extreme heat in the AMBA and other affected regions:

  • Stay hydrated and avoid exposure to the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM
  • Protect vulnerable groups: children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses
  • Be aware of local weather alerts
  • Follow the recommendations of emergency services in case of storms or strong winds

Health authorities insist that prevention is essential to avoid health complications during these days of extreme heat affecting both the AMBA and various areas of the country.
