The battle to control the fire in Nahuel Huapi National Park continues, with 2580 hectares affected.

Action plan underway to control the fire in Los Manzanos

The Emergency Committee (COE), led by the Nahuel Huapi National Park and the Forest Fire Fighting and Emergency Directorate, has established an action plan with different alert levels to face the advancement of the fire towards Roca and Hess lakes in Los Manzanos. The meeting was attended by representatives from Volunteer Firefighters and Civil Protection from Río Negro and Bariloche.

Recent flights have confirmed that the fire affects an area of 2,580 hectares. This adjustment does not reflect an expansion of the fire, but a greater precision in the maps. Brigadistas have worked in difficult terrains and under changing weather conditions, carrying out indirect attacks and monitoring in the most critical areas.

In Los Manzanos, brigadistas are creating containment lines, while in Laguna Quetro, a joint team with local residents has opened a 5.5-kilometer trail, accessible by horse, to transport equipment and reinforce the area.

The National Fire Management Service has deployed two planes and two helicopters to carry out direct water attacks on the Colorado and Bastión hills, as well as an observation plane that has flown over the fire to obtain new data.

In the Bastión and Colorado hills, where the fire has less activity, monitoring tasks, identification of hotspots, and preparation of helipads are being carried out. Additionally, a third camp has been established at the Viejo Manzano Campsite in Steffen, together with the Argentine Army, with the arrival of 30 brigadistas from Neuquén and Chubut.

The forecast anticipates an increase in wind and higher temperatures, complicating operations in the coming days. Strategies will be reviewed daily at the Incident Command, prioritizing the safety of the brigadistas.

Significant deployment of personnel and equipment to control the fire

The operation involves 181 people, including 110 brigadistas from different provinces, logistics teams, observers, specialists in forest fires, and support from the Argentine Army. Naval vessels from the Argentine Naval Prefecture and the Nahuel Huapi National Park are participating in the lake Steffen and Martín.

In recent days, brigadistas have faced difficult terrain and variable weather conditions. In recent days, brigadistas have faced difficult terrain and variable weather conditions.

The equipment includes medium trucks, minibuses, 4×4 vans, and a road machine from the Nahuel Huapi National Park to improve the helicopter operation areas. Two equipped helicopters for transport and water attacks, two water bomber planes from the National Fire Management Service, a Cessna 182 observation plane, and a Bell helicopter from the Argentine Army are available.
