The city of Rosario has taken a new step in public environmental policies with the launch of the Dr. Giovanni Piermattei Municipal Animal Health Hospital. In its first phase, the facility has already exceeded 1,100 consultations, demonstrating high demand and the need to strengthen animal health as part of urban balance.
In this context, the health center positions itself as a key device for handling complex emergencies. Additionally, it integrates into a municipal network that seeks to improve the quality of life for both animals and the community.
At the same time, the initiative reinforces the link between public health, environment, and social responsibility, essential pillars in sustainable cities.

Specialized care and emergency response
Since its inauguration, the hospital has treated 744 dogs and 398 cats. In most cases, these were animals with injuries from road accidents or fights, common situations in urban environments.
Furthermore, serious clinical conditions such as urinary obstructions in felines were addressed, a condition that can be lethal without quick intervention. These consultations highlight the importance of having adequate infrastructure for veterinary emergencies.
Additionally, the facility operates with professional teams distributed in shifts, including clinicians, surgeons, and assistants. This ensures daily coverage and continuous response to critical cases.
An articulated system for animal care
The hospital does not work in isolation but is part of a broader network. Consequently, basic consultations such as vaccination or neutering are referred to decentralized centers, optimizing resources.
Moreover, the system includes collaboration with protective organizations. These entities play a key role in the follow-up, recovery, and adoption of treated animals.
Simultaneously, active participation of the guardians is promoted, who must take on the subsequent care. This shared responsibility is essential to sustain treatments and ensure animal welfare.

What services the Rosario Municipal Animal Health Hospital provides
The hospital, located at Avenida Francia 1940, offers services primarily oriented towards emergencies and medium to high complexity cases. These include surgical interventions, advanced diagnostics, and hospitalizations.
It also has active guards throughout the week, with extended hours that facilitate access. This availability allows for quick action in critical situations.
On the other hand, care is free for those within the municipal public system, while other users pay an affordable fee. This scheme aims to expand coverage without losing sustainability.
Education and responsible ownership as environmental axes
In parallel to medical care, the hospital promotes awareness campaigns. Among them, the importance of using a leash, accident prevention, and regular health control is highlighted.
Additionally, responsible adoption and long-term commitment to animals are promoted. This approach aims to reduce abandonment and improve urban coexistence.
Finally, the experience shows that a city that invests in animal health also strengthens its environment. In this sense, Rosario is moving towards a model where the welfare of all species is part of a single ecological agenda.
