After a key modification made by the Legislature, the native fauna and flora will be **natural monuments of Córdoba**. The provincial chamber unanimously approved changes to Law 6964 on Protected Natural Areas, aimed at improving the **conservation of species**.

The regulation has now expanded some concepts to extend protection to **animals and plants**.

The reform, promoted by legislators **Abraham Galo** (Hacemos por Córdoba) and **Brenda Austin** (UCR), was unanimously approved.

## New natural monuments of Córdoba
It modifies articles **33, 34, 35, and 36** of the chapter “Provincial Natural Monuments” to broaden the concept and include species at risk of disappearing.

Thus, a central point is incorporated, referring to “things, living species of animals or plants of aesthetic, historical, or scientific interest”, an aspect that is not regulated in the current law.

In other words, it expands the concept so that it does not merely refer to “things” but also includes animals and plants.

As highlighted by the promoters, this achievement was possible thanks to joint work with organizations, who had been pointing out for some time that “Córdoba did not have a protection framework to safeguard animals and plants that are endangered or have an iconic value for the province. **Many are endemic**.”

Therefore, the **aguará guazú** can be declared a natural monument, a species that is **in danger of extinction**. But also others such as the guanaco, the capybara, the Brazilian guinea pig, the lesser grison, the collared peccary, among others. In addition, birds like the yellow cardinal, the king of the forest, and the crowned eagle, among others.
