After the celebration of the Friendship Day last Sunday, the 9 de Julio park, one of the main green lungs of San Miguel de Tucumán, was saturated with garbage.
The scene is repeated after every massive event, showing an alarming lack of environmental awareness.
From the municipality of Tucumán, they reported that anticipatory measures were implemented to minimize the negative impact.
“We organized a special plan for this significant date. We added 16 extra containers of large capacity, but it was not enough. The result is frustrating,” expressed the Secretary of Public Services, Luciano Chincarini.
Environmental concern and intensive cleaning tasks
Contamination of Lake San Miguel and garbage accumulation
Furthermore, Chincarini denounced a serious episode of environmental contamination: “Some informal traders spilled used oil into Lake San Miguel. The situation is critical. We put all available resources, but there are sectors that cause these irreparable damages,” he added.

The cleaning teams began their work from 7 in the morning, although it is estimated that the tasks will extend throughout the day due to the large accumulation of waste in the most frequented areas of the park.
The images disseminated by the portal La Gaceta showed a heartbreaking scene: plastic bags, disposable cups, barbecue leftovers, and even used diapers were part of the landscape after the celebrations.
