The **Argentinian Native Forests Foundation for Biodiversity**, together with Engineer Maya Takagi, representative in Argentina of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), designed a project to promote balanced development between production and **conservation of the [biodiversity in Misiones](https://noticiasambientales.com/medio-ambiente/restauracion-plantaran-10-000-arboles-nativos-en-la-selva-misionera/)**.
What is sought with this agreement is to guarantee the **protection of local ecosystems**, while promoting the growth of the forest economy in the province of **Misiones**. For this, a diagnosis, survey, and analysis of their needs will be carried out in order to develop an investment plan that suits the achieved development.
Another objective of this project is to **reduce deforestation** and also **decrease greenhouse gas emissions**. For this reason, different sustainable strategies will be implemented for the management of forest resources.
One of the selected locations to carry out this agreement is the **Yabotí Forest Basin**, which is composed of around twenty stakeholders in the forest value chain, including forest owners, sawmills, lumberjacks, public and private entities, as well as educational actors.

### **Strategies for Sustainable Production**
Among the projects presented in the agreement are **[environmental protection and restoration](https://noticiasambientales.com/animales/familia-registra-la-presencia-de-un-puma-adulto-cerca-del-acceso-al-parque-nacional-iguazu/)**, which will focus on the breeding of Jaguars in the Biosphere Reserve and improving jungle connectivity.
Efforts will also be made in **environmental monitoring and deforestation control**, along with agroforestry projects with Mbya-Guaraní communities, in the production of yerba mate, certified woods, and honey.

### **Main Characteristics of the Yabotí Forest Basin**
The Yabotí Biosphere Reserve was designated by UNESCO in 1995. This basin is located in the municipalities of San Pedro and Guaraní, in the province of Misiones, with the aim of **achieving a regional model of economic, environmental, and social sustainability** based on the valuation of natural and cultural resources, with environmental education and research as its main axes.
This place is composed of **two Provincial Parks: Esmeralda and Moconá**, which are legally protected for the long-term conservation of existing ecosystems; the biosphere reserve also includes the **Caá Yarí Provincial Park** and other management categories including the **Multiple Use Reserve** and the **Cultural Natural Reserve Papel Misionero** belonging to the Papel Misionero Grupo Arcor company. There is also a 772 ha reserve owned by Alto Paraná S. A. within the RBY.
The human population living in the reserve consists of 720 people from the Mbya Communities, and 35 people from the rural colony Pepirí miní. In this sense, the central axis of work is the dialogue of knowledge to ensure justice between generations, regarding the enjoyment and **use of natural resources**, as well as the **environmental services and essential elements** for a better quality of life.
