What is and how to use “Nano banana”, Google’s new free AI tool that revolutionizes image editing

A peculiar name is causing a stir in social media and the tech world: “Nano Banana”. This term, which was the key name at Google‘s internal testing of its Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, is now a reality.

It represents the latest innovation in photo editing with artificial intelligence. The tool, launched on August 28, stands out for its ease of use and high quality results, eliminating the need for prior experience in graphic design.

What is Nano Banana and how does it work?

Nano Banana is an innovation integrated into the Gemini app, Google’s AI platform. It can be used for free from both mobile and web platforms, without the need for downloads or additional configurations.

The tool allows:

  • Create images from scratch based on a description.
  • Upload a photo and give specific instructions to modify it.

Natural language can be used with simple commands like “convert the photo to black and white,” “remove the object from the background,” or “add a clear sky.” The AI interprets these instructions and modifies the image in seconds, changing only what is requested.

AI experts like Spanish influencer Pablo Maxmaxdata showcased on their social media the broad possibilities of this technology, allowing to alter lighting, hairstyle, color, posture, clothing, perspective, background, and practically any element in an image.

Access to Nano Banana is free for users with certain daily usage limitations. For developers and companies wishing to integrate the tool via Google’s API, the service costs $0.029 per image.

AI tools that will transform education and the environment

Generative artificial intelligence set a new agenda for Google, accelerating all its projects related to this technology.

Víctor Valle, Google’s executive director in Argentina, highlighted at an event in Puerto Madero at the end of 2024 that the impact of AI will be as revolutionary as the printing press or the automobile.

How artificial intelligence could revolutionize environmental care. How artificial intelligence could revolutionize environmental care.

According to Valle, Google’s AI already reaches 2 billion people through products such as Gmail, Google Maps, and searches. Now, the company is betting on new AI-focused products like Gemini Live, NotebookLM, and the new version of Android 15.

In this line, Valle ensured that these technologies are improving productivity and having a positive impact on different communities. In Argentina, Google provides AI-processed data that help prevent forest fires and floods, and offer key information for green space planning and more eco-friendly travel.
