They create a sustainable way to monitor the climate

Weather balloons are vital tools for monitoring the climate and collecting critical climate information, such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, and wind speed at different altitudes. However, conventional radiosondes are disposable and, after use, become plastic and electronic waste.

It is estimated that more than 2,500 radiosondes are launched worldwide daily, generating an annual expenditure of approximately 190 million dollars and around 48 tons of electronic waste.

This environmental problem poses a significant challenge, especially in a time where sectors such as agriculture, transportation, and energy demand greater precision in monitoring the climate.

## AirXeed: Natural Inspiration for an Eco-Friendly Alternative
With the aim of mitigating this ecological impact, Shane Kyi Hla Win and Danial Sufiyan Bin Shaiful from Singapore have developed the innovative AirXeed radiosonde.

This reusable device is inspired by nature, specifically the movement of maple seeds, to offer a more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly option.

The design of AirXeed replicates the natural rotation of these seeds, allowing for a smooth and controlled descent. This reduces the risk of damage and facilitates collection at predetermined points.

Moreover, its advanced technology allows for data collection both during ascent and descent, providing a more comprehensive picture of atmospheric conditions and improving the quality of climate models.

## Advanced Technology and Sustainable Materials
Unlike traditional radiosondes, AirXeed uses a self-rotating system managed by artificial intelligence, which adjusts the descent based on wind currents.

Thanks to its modular design and manufacturing with materials such as balsa wood and foam, durability is promoted, and waste generation is minimized.

This sustainable approach not only reduces environmental impact but also decreases operational costs, positioning AirXeed as a revolutionary solution for the meteorological industry.

## The Importance of Climate Information for Agriculture
Weather data is crucial for decision-making in modern agriculture, as it requires updated meteorological information to guide production processes.

Weather data can be obtained through the aforementioned weather balloons or also from weather stations, whose daily use allows for measuring and recording various meteorological variables in real-time, with speed and reliability. These instruments enable monitoring of air temperature variation, solar radiation, wind direction and speed, rainfall, relative humidity, soil temperature, atmospheric pressure, among others.
