On Friday, March 14, Goya hosted the Second Rural and Environmental Prosecutors’ Meeting in Corrientes, with the support of the organization. The event was attended by security forces, specialized prosecutors, the general public, and government organizations with influence in environmental preservation.

“The main objective of these meetings is to share experiences from each of their prosecutor’s offices, secondly, we are developing a protocol of action for specific crimes such as rural and environmental ones, and thirdly, a recent ruling by the Superior Court on poaching was analyzed, and security forces were trained.” Stated by Dr. Gerardo Cabral, Rural and Environmental Prosecutor of Corrientes, to Environmental News.

It was announced that the third Prosecutors’ Meeting is scheduled for June.

At the beginning, the host, Dr. José Omar Caseré, gave the opening remarks of the meeting and thanked everyone for their presence, then proceeded to start the talks.

The presentations began when Dr. Bordón, prosecutor of Esquina, took the floor, discussing protocols for action in rural and environmental crimes. Subsequently, Drs. Gerardo Cabral and Juan Carlos Castillo spoke about the crime of poaching and analyzed recent rulings related to this topic.

Later, Comisario General Walter Torres, head of the Specialized Police, presented statistical details of the criminal map in the province of Corrientes on the same subject.

Additionally, the Mayor of Provincial Parks and Reserves, Walter Drews, shared details and boundaries of the recent reserve created by the Law of the Ysoró Stream Natural Reserve, which the prosecutors visited in the afternoon, guided by park rangers and the Argentine Naval Prefecture.

Within the framework of the Prosecutors’ Meeting, a navigation was carried out on the Ysoro Stream, declared by law as a Provincial Park and Reserve in the town of Goya, Corrientes. The participants of the meeting were accompanied by the park rangers in charge of the protected area.

“We navigated the Paraná River and then entered the Ysoro Provincial Reserve, a reserve created by provincial law for the preservation of biodiversity in that place, which has restrictions and has been recently established, and the province aims to strengthen the reserve, which is important, located next to the Paraná River, in the Goya department,” added Dr. Gerardo Cabral.

In the final conclusions, questions and queries from the participants were addressed, confirming that the third meeting will be in June.
