Sales in the Sustainable Products categories on Mercado Libre grew by 26% compared to the same period in 2023, with more than 4.8 million products sold having a positive impact on the region.

Trends and Growth

Currently, Mercado Libre has over 2.7 million buyers of products with a positive impact, a 27% growth compared to the previous year, and over 38 thousand entrepreneurs offering these products, a 9% increase. In Argentina, the number of buyers of these products increased by 7%.

Highlighted Categories

Sustainable fashion was the fastest-growing category in Latin America, with a 92% increase in units sold and 91% in buyers. Argentina and Brazil led the growth with 133% and 132% respectively, followed by Mexico with 83% and Chile with 62%.

Catalog Expansion

The Sustainable Products catalog expanded by 48% across the region, with the most chosen products being pants, socks, t-shirts, and pajamas made from recycled materials, bamboo fiber, or certified materials.

In Argentina, the fastest-growing categories were Sustainable Fashion (+133%), baby products (+19%), and food and beverages (+8%).

José Ignacio De Carli, Senior Sustainability Manager at Mercado Libre, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting individuals and entrepreneurs towards a more sustainable lifestyle, offering a wide range of responsible products.

Survey and User Perceptions

A survey of users who purchased at least one product with a positive impact revealed that 7 out of 10 people believe their purchasing decisions can have a positive impact on the environment and communities, and 9 out of 10 find the current environmental situation concerning. The main reasons for concern are global warming, water pollution, and deforestation.

Users mainly value the composition and origin of raw materials (recycled, organic, natural, or cruelty-free materials) and biodiversity protection when choosing items with a positive impact.
