The B Movement celebrates 20 years: over 10,800 companies redefine business success with social and environmental impact

What began in 2006 with 81 pioneering companies is now a community of more than 10,800 B Corporations in 104 countries, employing over one million people.

The B Movement has established itself as a business model that seeks to benefit people and the planet, redefining the meaning of success beyond profitability.

Argentina: A Key Player

In Argentina, there are 294 B Corporations, distributed across 30 sectors and industries and originating from 16 territories. They generate more than 45,800 formal jobs and collectively bill US$ 5.7 billion annually. The country ranks tenth worldwide and second in Latin America in the number of B Corporations.

  • In 2025, it was the regional territory with the most applications for certification.
  • In 2026, 23 new B Corporations were added.

Fernanda Mierez, co-president of Sistema B Argentina, highlighted that the challenge is to integrate profitability with social and environmental impact at the heart of business decisions.

Latin American and Global Expansion

The vision of the B Movement reached Latin America in 2012 and expanded rapidly.

Pedro Tarak, co-founder of Sistema B, emphasized that the regional contribution was the systemic approach, understanding that companies are part of a broader ecosystem.

Proven Impact

  • According to the study “The Nature of Business” by B Lab, if all companies managed their environmental impact like B Corporations, the increase in global temperature would be reduced by 0.5 °C by 2100.
  • During the COVID-19 crisis, 95% of B Corporations survived, compared to 88% of traditional ones.
  • Cases like Lucenza in Mar del Plata and Fixit in Santa Fe show how certification strengthens competitiveness and community cohesion.

In 2026, 23 new B Corporations joined the movement.

Four Growth Phases

  1. From Idea to Infrastructure (2006–2011): creation of the B Impact Assessment and first laws in the U.S.
  2. From Country to Global Reach (2011–2016): expansion to 37 countries and emblematic cases like Natura Cosmetics.
  3. From Niche to Necessity (2016–2021): accelerated growth after the pandemic, with more than 100 B Corporations in Argentina.
  4. From Consolidation to Systemic Influence (2021–2026): more than 10,000 B Corporations worldwide, with global companies like Nespresso and Danone certified.

Legal Transformations

The B Movement promoted regulatory changes in 54 jurisdictions, with BIC laws (Benefit and Collective Interest Companies) in countries like Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Italy, Spain, and France.

Towards a New Decade

B Corporations are preparing for more rigorous standards, with minimum thresholds in seven Impact Topics: from Climate Action to Human Rights, verified by external auditors. Marina Arias, director of Sistema B Argentina, emphasized that the focus now is on scaling impact and structurally influencing the economy.

After 20 years, the B Movement has demonstrated that another way of doing business is possible: one that combines competitiveness with purpose, resilience with sustainability, and success with positive impact.

The next decade will be key to consolidating its influence in transforming markets and building a more just and regenerative future.
