To restore and protect the natural environments of Madrid, this Autonomous Community will invest more than one million euros. Specifically, they aim to four spaces.
Thanks to this project, through which **1500 new native plants** will be planted, the **flora and fauna** that were damaged by quarry material extraction will be **restored**.
The recovery of Madrid’s natural environments
The body of water is included in the **Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Basin of the Manzanares River**, as well as in the **Reservoir Catalog** of the region.

This is a **landscape and environmental** improvement that complements those of the towns of Alpedrete, Rivas Vaciamadrid, and Aranjuez.
The Community of Madrid allocated around 1.3 million euros to restore four environments:
- Soto de las Cuevas (Aranjuez)
- La Laguna de El Campillo (Rivas Vaciamadrid)
- The quarries of Alpedrete
- La dehesa de La Golondrina (Navacerrada)
The Regional Minister of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, **Carlos Novillo**, visited the **latest rehabilitated space, in a public mountain with rich biodiversity**.
It is located on the banks of the Navacerrada reservoir and is included in the Catalog of Protected Reservoirs of the region, in the Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Basin of the Manzanares River, and the Natural Resources Management Plan of the Guadarrama Mountain Range.
In the dehesa, an old quarry had caused damage, in addition to **leaving a waste deposit and two small deteriorated constructions**. Experts from the regional government have used the topographic remodeling technique of the terrain in this process.
The importance of urban natural reserves and spaces
**Urban natural reserves** function as **oases in the midst of large cities**. They are also spaces for the conservation of **native species**, migratory corridors, and optimal places to engage in nature-related activities. A common example is **birdwatching**.

They are also spaces chosen by many schools and institutions to teach students environmental education content. Reserves are also an **educational space** for the entire community.
Among several points, we can learn about the **functions of ecosystems**, the importance of differentiating **native species from exotic ones**, and their benefits for the environment in general.
