The Municipality of Quilmes presented the program “Less Waste + More Community”, an initiative aimed at improving waste management and promoting a more organized and environmentally responsible city.
The launch took place on April 1 at the House of Cultures, led by interim mayor Eva Mieri, as part of the Clean Quilmes plan, promoted by the administration of Mayra Mendoza.
Joint work between management and community
During the presentation, Mieri emphasized the importance of citizen participation and the coordinated work between the municipality and the residents: “The organized community and the State must work together to achieve a cleaner and more responsible city.”
The Secretary of Environment and GIRSU, Roberto Gaudio, explained that the program seeks to unify urban collection and organization policies, simplifying the lives of Quilmes residents and reducing the presence of garbage in micro-dumps and inappropriate spaces.
Central axes of the program
The initiative includes the expansion of services and new tools:
- Green Waste Collection: aimed at pruning remains.
- Bulky Waste Collection: coordination with existing programs.
- Separate Collection: separation at source and recycling.
- Eco-points: expansion of reception spaces, including the Aldo Severi promenade as a new reference point.
- Containerization: extension of the service to Brandsen and its incorporation into the municipal collection map.
Participation of the private and community sectors
The event was attended by local authorities and representatives of business chambers, such as the president of the Quilmes Chamber of Commerce, Alberto López, and the president of the Chinese Supermarket Chamber, Huang Hanqin. The inclusion of these sectors reflects the intention to coordinate public and private efforts to improve waste management.
Expected impact
The program aims to:
- Reduce micro-dumps and deposits in inappropriate places.
- Facilitate access to information on collection for residents.
- Promote environmental awareness through education and participation.
- Strengthen community identity, integrating residents and organizations in the care of the urban environment.
Additionally, the initiative is expected to have a positive impact on public health, by reducing sources of pollution and improving the quality of life in neighborhoods. Coordination with schools and social organizations will allow environmental education to become a transversal axis of the program.
“Less Waste + More Community” is presented as a comprehensive strategy that combines public management, citizen participation, and business commitment. With the expansion of services, the creation of new eco-points, and the extension of containerization, Quilmes seeks to establish itself as a cleaner, more organized, and environmentally responsible city, reinforcing the idea that sustainability begins in every home and is built collectively.
