Report on the work of the members of the Global Network of Green and Healthy Hospitals in Latin America 2024
Health Care Without Harm presents the eighth edition of the report “Hospitals Healing the Planet“, highlighting examples of the work carried out by members of the Global Network of Green and Healthy Hospitals in Latin America. These efforts aim to minimize the environmental impact of their activities and promote community environmental health.
This year, the report includes a summary of the work of the institutions that won the 2023 edition of the “Less footprint, more health” program awards. It also features sections showing progress in the implementation of the Global Agenda for Green and Healthy Hospitals and in climate action from the health sector.
Additionally, a new section is included on working with plastics and the usual chapter with leadership stories from healthcare professionals who are part of the Global Network. These stories highlight their commitment and relentless dedication to health and the environment.
In the 2024 edition, the report presents cases of 33 healthcare facilities –both public and private– in ten countries in Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Panama, and Uruguay). These facilities, with varying levels of complexity, aim to inspire and be replicated throughout the region.
The document is a testament to the collaborative work among institutions from different countries and contexts, which year after year manage to exceed their results and inspire more facilities and health systems to follow the same path.
