What is the relationship between climate and well-being?

Most read

The arrival of the heat seems to invite us to go out, move around, and reconnect with nature. This is no coincidence. The truth is that climate and well-being are deeply intertwined.

As the temperature of the environment becomes warmer, the release of serotonin in our brain increases. This neurotransmitter has the particularity of making us feel happier and more relaxed.

This causes summer weather to lead us to experience general well-being sensations that we express in our relationships, strengthening affections and improving bonds.

The heat intensifies the colors of nature, especially green, which contributes to the production of serotonin and long-term well-being.

The increase of green scenarios in our surroundings leads us to experience tranquility and emotional balance, sensations associated with feelings of happiness and well-being.

Water and its revitalizing effect

Another key factor is water. Whether at a beach, a river, or a pool, if we can be close to water, we will achieve a calming and revitalizing effect on the mind.

Various studies show that the sound of moving water can decrease amygdala activity, the brain region related to stress and negative emotions.

These moments of connection with nature and pleasant weather help us regain creativity and essential motivation to face the obligations of the year.

The brain and mind function better when we are relaxed, and if we eliminate the stress of day-to-day life, we can generate more original ideas and solve problems more easily.

Benefits of rest in the summer

Despite many thinking they sleep worse in hot weather, rest is much more restorative during periods of good weather.

Exposure to sunlight helps regulate our biological clock and improves sleep quality. After a season of good rest, we will feel more focused and productive.

Therefore, it is important to complain less about the heat and try to organize outings near the water. It’s not just a momentary pleasure but a way to give the brain, mind, and body the break they need to move forward with joy and optimism.

When the weather is pleasant, our mood improves, leading us to express the best version of ourselves.
