Chile advances in energy transition by launching a key platform for green hydrogen

With the aim of **[accelerating the energy transition](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/asia-lanza-al-mar-el-futuro-dando-inicio-a-una-nueva-era-maritima-de-barcos-con-hidrogeno-verde/)** and establishing itself as a regional leader, Chile presented an **innovative digital tool** to boost the development of green hydrogen. The platform, named OrientaH2, seeks to integrate key players, **provide technical information, and promote opportunities** in this new energy sector.

The portal is focused on five strategic regions in the country: **Antofagasta, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, Biobío, and Magallanes**. Users can access relevant data, identify actors in the productive ecosystem, and publish services or projects related to green hydrogen.

The initiative is part of the Green Hydrogen Action Plan 2023-2030 and responds to the need to **create a collaborative environment around an emerging industry** with high environmental and economic potential.

## A national commitment to clean energy

OrientaH2 represents a fundamental step towards **a low-emission economy**, connecting supply and demand in a market that is still developing. Its design **allows mapping local capacities**, fostering partnerships, and promoting more informed decisions among the various stakeholders involved.

Chile is thus moving towards its goal of becoming one of the most competitive producers of green hydrogen in the world by 2030. The platform will be **a key tool to coordinate public and private efforts** towards this goal.

The energy transition, in addition to reducing polluting emissions, **creates new opportunities for employment, innovation, and sustainable development** in key regions of the country. With OrientaH2, Chile reinforces its ecological commitment by betting on clean and collaborative energies.

## Green hydrogen as a great energy potential

Green hydrogen is **[a type of fuel produced from renewable sources](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/hidrogeno-verde-la-clave-para-devolver-el-oxigeno-a-mares-asfixiados/)**, such as solar or wind energy, through a process called electrolysis. Unlike conventional hydrogen, **it does not generate polluting emissions during its production**, making it a key alternative to tackle climate change.

This energy vector can be used in hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as heavy transport, industry, and power generation. Additionally, **it can be stored and transported relatively easily**, making it particularly useful to complement other intermittent energy sources like solar or wind.

Its development **represents a strategic opportunity for many countries**, both for its environmental benefits and its economic potential. By betting on green hydrogen, technological innovation is promoted, sustainable jobs are created, and progress is made towards a cleaner and safer energy matrix.
