Tetra Pak strengthens its global sustainability leadership: emissions reduction and technological advancements

The Swedish multinational **Tetra Pak**, a reference in the **food processing and packaging sector**, has released its **Sustainability Report 2024**, detailing the progress achieved globally in environmental matters.

Among the most outstanding data is a 25% decrease in **greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)** throughout its supply chain since 2019. This figure represents a five-point improvement compared to the previous report.

Within its facilities, the company achieved a **54% reduction in GHG emissions**. It also reached a **94% consumption of renewable energy**, maintaining the course towards **carbon neutrality by 2030**.

These actions are accompanied by initiatives to **enhance food security** and **strengthen local economies** by providing access to nutritious food.

Adolfo Orive, the company’s President and CEO, anticipated that the projected population growth for 2050—around **10 billion people**—will drive an additional 60% demand for food. “Faced with this challenge, we are promoting **more resilient, responsible, and efficient systems**, collaborating with customers and strategic allies,” Orive stated.

## Tetra Pak’s Climate Commitments and Social Results

The document also emphasizes the company’s commitment to achieve a **46% reduction in total GHG emissions** (scopes 1, 2, and 3) by 2030, using 2019 as a reference. The improvement is supported by innovative industrial solutions: **equipment that consumes less water and energy**, **integrated factory technologies**, and **packaging with a low environmental footprint**.

Among other achievements, the following stand out:
– **Up to 40% reduction in energy use** in food plants, with a **60% process quality improvement**, minimizing **food waste**.
– Delivery of **nutritious beverages to 66 million children** in 49 countries through **school programs**.
– Support to **84,000 small dairy farmers** in 29 collection centers, ensuring economic stability and the supply of raw milk.
– **Investment of 100 million euros** in R&D to enhance the environmental performance of packaging.
– Launch of **Approach to Nature**, a strategy with over 20 specific goals to **halt biodiversity loss and strengthen water security**.
– **Strengthening the bond with workers** through surveys, impact analysis, and collaboration with independent entities.
– Active participation of **150 suppliers** in the “Join us in Protecting the Planet” initiative, aiming to transform sustainable standards across the industry.
