With an investment of US$19 million, this is the innovative solar park that San Luis inaugurated to supply 18,000 households.

San Luis took a significant step towards clean energy generation with the inauguration of the ‘La Salvación’ photovoltaic solar park in Quines.

The plant, developed by the company Capex with an investment of 19 million dollars, has the capacity to supply 17,800 households.

Furthermore, an expansion is already projected that would quintuple its current production.

The governor Claudio Poggi participated in the inaugural event on Monday along with representatives from Capex, led by the general manager Adolfo Storni.

Also present were the Minister of Productive Development, Federico Trombotto; the Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development, Federico Cacace, and the mayor of Quines, Antonella Macías.

What the new solar park in San Luis is like

The ‘La Salvación’ solar park covers 40 hectares 10 kilometers from Quines and features over 40,000 bifacial panels.

This technology allows for the direct capture of solar energy and also takes advantage of the reflected light on the ground from the opposite side of the panels.

The panels are equipped with a “tracker” system that tracks the sun’s position to optimize daily production.

The clean energy generated is delivered through the Edesal networks for distribution to end customers.

“In the park, we have a capacity of 20 megawatts, which is equivalent to supplying approximately 17,800 households,” explained Storni.

The executive highlighted that they chose San Luis because it is a province “friendly to investments.”

The economic and labor impact of the new solar park in San Luis

During construction, the project generated employment for approximately 200 people.

Currently, the park maintains 10 permanent positions at its operations center.

The company prioritized local labor, forming a workforce with personnel from Quines, Luján, Talita, San Luis, and Villa Mercedes.

In addition, Capex has already announced short-term expansion plans: “We want to quintuple our generation capacity to reach 120 megawatts,” they detailed.

This proposal “which would require around $80 million,” the executives reported during the presentation.

Clean energy and provincial competitiveness through innovation

Governor Poggi highlighted the strategic importance of the project: “San Luis is on its way to becoming a province that generates clean energy and that makes us more competitive.”

And he emphasized: “A few years ago, it was not like this, it is a very important step for the present and future of San Luis.”

Minister Trombotto pointed out: “This inauguration translates into new opportunities.”

With this solar park, “San Luis is at the national forefront in terms of energy transformation,” which enhances the possibilities of investment, settlement, growth, and employment.

Currently, the provincial Government is working on a Master Energy Plan to ensure the resource for the next decades, positioning the issue as a top priority on the State’s agenda.

New solar park in San Luis: environmental and social commitment hand in hand

Beyond energy generation, Capex also established links with the surrounding communities.

During the project, the company reforested the park’s surroundings with over 1,400 native specimens and provided environmental awareness talks.

“We want to continue on that path, reaching schools with workshops on environmental education and clean energy. We also plan to offer guided tours of the premises,” the company stated.

Storni pointed out that San Luis offers a strategic corridor to evacuate the generated energy, a determining factor in the decision to invest in the province.
