The field research tasks and collected evidence pointed to a possible network of illegal bird trafficking, which allowed to identify those involved in Paraná and locate the house in the San Agustín Neighborhood.
The Paraná Cattle Rustling Brigade carried out a raid in the city of Paraná, resulting in the seizure of several endangered birds, and preventing their likely commercialization.
The Brigade’s actions allowed to rescue a series of specimens whose market value could reach a millionaire sum of money. These are birds such as the Yellow Cardinal and the Cattle Tyrant, whose destiny would have been captivity, limiting their freedom and survival in their natural habitat.
The collaborative work between the Natural Resources and Inspection Directorate of Entre Ríos and the Paraná Brigade of the Rural Crimes Prevention Directorate was key to conducting the investigation.
An investigation with positive results
Following the raid, authorized by the 4th Guarantee Court, under the direction of Julián Vergara, an operation was carried out at a residence on Coronel Camino street in Paraná.

On-site, they were able to seize important items related to the illegal capture and trade of birds. “A total of 13 cages were seized, as well as 6 iron perches, 3 food containers, and most importantly, 13 birds,” stated the Cattle Rustling chief, Leandro Peralta.
The operation led to the recovery of various species, some endangered and highly valued on the black market. The found birds included two Yellow-Finch Tanager or Common Diuca-Finches, a Painted Bunting, a Green Diuca-Finch, two Black-capped Warblers, a Yellow Cardinal, a Red-crested Cardinal, a Yellow-billed Cardinal, two Black-capped Tanagers, a House Sparrow, and a Cattle Tyrant.

The rescue and release of the birds
After being rescued, the birds will be released in coastal areas away from urbanization, where they can regain their freedom in their natural environment.
The cages used for their captivity will be destroyed, complying with current legislation on wildlife protection.
On the other hand, the residents of the house, including the main suspect identified in the case, were “properly identified” and will be at the disposal of the competent authorities.
