China covers a mountain with 100,000 solar panels

China continues to set milestones in its transition towards renewable energies. After filling deserts and plains with solar panels, the Asian giant now covered an entire mountain with 95,648 photovoltaic modules. This ambitious project not only generates clean energy but also revealed a surprising additional benefit.

Located on the slope of a mountain in Lishui, Zhejiang province, this solar megapark extends over lands of difficult access and little previous utility. The solar panels, manufactured with perovskite technology by the company MicroQuanta Semiconductor, are the most advanced in the world, with a conversion efficiency of 20.2%. Each module is designed to capture sunlight more efficiently thanks to its 22° inclination.

This project not only aims to generate sustainable electricity but also to take advantage of the underlying space in the installation of the panels for agriculture since they are two meters above the ground. This approach, known as agrivoltaics, combines energy production with food cultivation, creating a microclimate under the panels ideal for edible species such as lettuces.

In southern China, where summers are hot and humid and winters are mild, solar panels act as barriers against storms and excessive radiation, protecting crops and improving agricultural efficiency.

## The future of perovskite, the mountain covered with 100,000 solar panels
Perovskite solar panels are not only more flexible and lighter than traditional silicon ones but also more economical and efficient. This material is ideal for irregular terrains like mountains, and its environmental impact is lower as it does not require lead in its manufacturing.

Inspired by this success, China initiated another project in the Taihang mountains, Hebei province, covering 1,133 hectares with solar panels. These elevated locations maximize solar exposure, avoiding shadows and exploiting lands that would otherwise be unusable.

These innovative projects not only reinforce China’s leadership in renewable energies but also demonstrate how technological solutions can be integrated with environmental and economic sustainability. If this strategy continues to be successful, it could become a replicable model worldwide, optimizing land use and expanding the positive impact of clean energies.

## Countries in South America leading in renewable energies
South America has a great potential to generate renewable energies, and these countries lead in this aspect thanks to their abundant natural resources such as sun, wind, and water. Many countries in the region made significant advancements in adopting these sources of clean energy, thus contributing to the fight against climate change and the diversification of their energy matrix.

Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina are the South American countries that stand out for the use of renewable energies. However, they are not the only ones, as Peru, Ecuador, and Paraguay have the potential to incorporate this type of energy in the near future.
