The municipal pet cemetery in Málaga, inaugurated on June 24, has met a crucial public need, providing a dignified space for pet rest.

In its first six months of operation, it has provided 82 services, including 62 incinerations (32 individual and 30 collective), 17 forest burials, and the placement of ashes in urns in the designated gardens.

The majority of the animals assisted have been dogs (61), followed by cats (18), and rabbits (3).

These facilities are pioneering in Spain for being publicly managed, exceeding expectations and continuing to promote animal welfare in the city.

The Málaga City Council, through Parcemasa, manages this space as part of the City Council’s actions to protect and care for animals, in collaboration with associations and animal shelters.

This commitment is part of the municipal government program 2023-2027

Comprehensive services for dignified farewells

In addition to incinerations and burials, the cemetery offers collection and transportation of deceased animals, farewell ceremonies, psychological support from Parcemasa, and liaison with veterinarians.

Responsible pet adoption is also encouraged. The goal is to provide comprehensive service from the retrieval of the deceased animal to the management of burials or ashes delivery.

The rates have been set considering the prices of other pet cemeteries and animal crematoriums in the province, based on a feasibility study to ensure their effective operation.
