Argentine Law 14.346 establishes prison sentences for those who mistreat or commit acts of cruelty against animals. It also sets a series of requirements for the welfare of animals.

It is the legal tool that penalizes people who make some species victims of violence.

Despite its age (it dates back to 1954), it is still a milestone in Latin American law and in the world because it considers animals as “victims” of a criminal act and, in that way, grants them a legal status, or makes them subjects of law.
