The first photovoltaic plant in Greater Buenos Aires and the Partido de La Matanza now has all its solar panels installed.
Located in González Catán, on the roof of the Environmental Energy Recomposition Center (CARE), this project represents a key step towards renewable electricity generation, within the framework of the strategic program La Matanza Solar (LMS).
Clean energy for self-consumption and the power grid
The 250 kWp plant will reduce public costs and provide renewable energy to EDENOR.
With 500 solar panels, eight on-grid inverters, support structures, wiring, electrical panels, and a weather station, the plant is designed to reach a power capacity of 250 kWp.
Once the photovoltaic plant is operational, it will be able to inject clean energy into EDENOR’s distribution network, contributing to the mitigation of climate change by avoiding greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
“The connection with EDENOR ensures a safe injection of clean energy, consolidating the role of the municipal government in a just energy transition,” highlighted the General Subsecretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development.
An educational and demonstrative space for the community
The solar plant will be open to residents, students, and institutions to strengthen environmental awareness.
In addition to its energy function, the plant will become a demonstrative and educational space, where the community can learn firsthand about the operation of an urban solar plant, promoting training in renewable energies and collective environmental commitment.

Objectives of the La Matanza Solar program
Distributed generation, energy efficiency, and social training.
- Promote local distributed generation
- Reduce GHG emissions
- Incorporate renewable energies in public works
- Generate energy for institutional self-consumption
- Reduce electricity consumption in the area
- Train social and business actors
Solar energy: environmental, social, and economic impact in Buenos Aires
A clean source that improves quality of life and reduces energy costs.
Solar energy allows:
- Combat climate change by reducing dependence on fossil fuels
- Bring electricity to rural areas through autonomous photovoltaic systems
- Reduce electrical costs and generate income from surpluses injected into the grid
- Improve energy efficiency in bioclimatic buildings
An environmentally sustainable and socially just culture
La Matanza promotes multiple programs to strengthen the ecological transition.
In addition to LMS, the Subsecretariat promotes initiatives such as:
- Matanza Recicla
- Urban Wetlands
- Environmental Education
- Agroecology and Sustainable Production
- Urban Forestry
