World leaders sign an agreement and call for access to clean energy for the most vulnerable countries.

Within the framework of the **United Nations General Assembly**, leaders from **16 countries and international organizations**, including **Ursula von der Leyen**, President of the **European Commission**, issued a **joint letter** to warn about **persistent inequalities in access to clean energy**.

The document demands that the [global energy transition](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/india-acelera-su-transicion-energetica-con-una-ambiciosa-expansion-eolica-que-promete-duplicar-su-capacidad-instalada/) should not leave behind countries with **less financial capacity**, especially in the **Global South**.

## Insufficient Financing and Human Consequences
Africa received only 2% of the **global energy investment in 2024**.

Out of the **$2 trillion invested in energy during 2024**, only **$40 billion** was allocated to **Africa**, a figure that, while doubling that of 2020, remains **dramatically insufficient**.

The letter warns that **600,000 people die each year** on the continent from **respiratory diseases** linked to the use of **polluting fuels for cooking**, perpetuating **energy poverty** and **[environmental degradation](https://noticiasambientales.com/medio-ambiente/el-deterioro-de-los-humedales-en-el-mundo-la-problematica-en-mas-de-170-paises/)**.

## Regional Gaps and Structural Challenges
Southeast Asia and island nations face **technical and infrastructural barriers**.

The **Southeast Asia region** needs an additional **$47 billion per year until 2035** to drive its energy transition.

Meanwhile, **small island states** have abundant **renewable resources** such as **solar and offshore wind**, but lack **affordable storage** and **international electrical connections**, limiting their utilization.

## Latin America: Untapped Potential
The region possesses **unique natural resources**, but has not fully capitalized on them yet.

The letter highlights that **Latin America** has an **unparalleled availability of renewable resources**, but has only **harnessed a fraction of its potential**.

This represents a **strategic opportunity** to **develop clean industries**, generate **green jobs**, and **strengthen regional energy security**.

## Global Energy Transitions Forum: a Platform for Equity
The initiative aims to accelerate a fair transition through **multi-sector partnerships**.

Launched at the **World Economic Forum in Davos**, the **Global Energy Transitions Forum** provides a collaboration space for **governments, banks, companies, international institutions, and philanthropic entities**.

Its goal is to achieve **11 TW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030**, prioritizing **developing countries**.

## COP30 in Brazil: an Opportunity to Consolidate Commitments
The **climate summit** will be crucial in defining post-2030 goals and increasing global ambition.

The letter emphasizes the importance of [**COP30**](https://cop30.br/es), to be held in **Brazil by the end of the year**, as a decisive moment to **consolidate existing commitments**, **increase climate ambition**, and **chart a path towards an equitable energy transition** in the next decade.
