Buenos Aires and the Metropolitan Area (AMBA) are undergoing a climatic transition that will lead to the first heat wave of the summer period just before the New Year celebrations.
According to meteorological projections led by specialists like Christian Garavaglia, the end of 2025 will be marked by a scenario of extreme temperatures, with very high minimums and maximums that will persist during the last three days of the year, thus consolidating the first sustained heat event of the season.
Weather evolution and thermal records
After a brief relief recorded on December 25, the thermometer will begin a gradual climb. Although a temporary moderation is expected for Sunday the 28th due to the rotation of winds to the east sector —with maximums around 31 °C—, the outlook will change drastically towards Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th.
During these days, warm and humid air is expected to settle over the central area of Argentina. The critical point of the phenomenon would be reached on Wednesday, December 31, when records in the City of Buenos Aires could climb to 38 °C, even surpassing that figure in various points of the province and the Pampas region.

Meanwhile, Patagonia will close the cycle with conditions of strong winds, with gusts that could exceed 80 km/h.
The relief for the people of Buenos Aires would come only with the start of 2026. It is estimated that on January 1, the entry of a pulse of cold air will generate instability, causing rains and scattered showers that will lead to a necessary thermal drop after the oppressive days expected for the end of the year.
