Most read

Brazil is already breathing the air of the 30th United Nations Conference on fighting Climate Change, the COP30, which will take place from November 10 to 21, 2025 in Belém, Pará, in the heart of the Amazon.

With 11 months remaining until the start of the Climate Summit, the federal government has intensified preparations to welcome more than 60,000 people, including heads of state, diplomats, businessmen, investors, activists, and delegations from the 193 member countries.

Brazil as a catalyst for environmental debates

The event, based in Pará, positions Brazil as a catalyst for global and region-specific environmental issues debates.

Topics such as reducing greenhouse gases, adapting to climate change, financing for developing countries, forest preservation and biodiversity, the use of renewable energies and low-carbon emission solutions, as well as the social impacts of climate change, will be central at COP30.

The importance of the Amazon rainforest

Brazil, home to one of the world’s largest tropical forests, plays an essential role in mitigating the effects of climate change.

COP30 will provide a platform for the country to showcase its efforts and commitments to environmental conservation and sustainable development. It will also highlight the importance of protecting the Amazon rainforest to maintain the planet’s balance.

Expectations for COP30

Despite pressures from fossil fuel lobbies during COP29, setbacks in the decision to move away from fossil fuels made during COP28 were avoided. This achievement raises expectations for the upcoming summit in Belém.

COP30 will be an opportunity to connect climate and biodiversity struggles, and for Brazil to demonstrate true leadership in the fight against global climate change.

Mitigation and financing on the agenda

Mitigation will be a key theme at COP30, scheduled from November 10 to 21, 2025. Nations worldwide will arrive with enhanced and more ambitious commitments to reduce greenhouse gases, recognizing that existing promises are insufficient.

Furthermore, more progress is expected in financing in 2025, in order to support developing countries in their transition to a cleaner and more sustainable economy.

Nature protection and combating climate change

The celebration of COP30 in the Amazon region has symbolic importance and highlights the fundamental role of nature in the climate crisis.

The rainforest acts as a huge carbon sink, absorbing and storing CO2. However, it faces threats like illegal logging. The UN will continue efforts to improve rainforest protection and other ecosystems.

In summary, COP30 in Belém represents a crucial opportunity for Brazil and the world to strengthen their commitments in the fight against climate change. With a focus on mitigation, financing, and nature protection, the summit seeks to promote more sustainable and equitable development, addressing global and local environmental challenges.
