Every April 22, Earth Day is celebrated, a date that originated in 1970 in the United States as an environmental mobilization and today brings together more than 190 countries. Over time, it has become a call to reduce the human impact on the planet.
In this context, the day focuses on promoting concrete actions that contribute to preserving essential resources. Among them, household waste recycling emerges as an accessible and effective tool.
Likewise, used vegetable oil is positioned as one of the most polluting wastes when not managed properly. Therefore, its correct disposal becomes a central focus in awareness campaigns.

The silent impact of used oil on the environment
The daily use of oil in homes, restaurants, and hotels generates large volumes of waste. However, when disposed of incorrectly, it produces serious environmental consequences.
Indeed, just one liter of oil can contaminate up to a thousand liters of water. Additionally, when poured onto the soil, it forms a layer that blocks filtration and alters its natural structure.
As a result, fertility decreases and ecosystems lose their productive capacity. Thus, a daily practice becomes a large-scale environmental problem.
Circular economy and responsible waste management
In response to this scenario, initiatives like “Recycle Your Oil”, promoted by the company DH-SH, propose a solution based on the circular economy. Since 2017, the program has promoted the collection and reuse of this waste.
On one hand, more than 400 green points have been installed throughout the country. On the other, educational programs have been developed, reaching thousands of students and strengthening environmental awareness from an early age.
Additionally, the collected oil is transported to the plant located in Capitán Bermúdez, where it is transformed into biofuel. Thus, a polluting waste becomes an energy resource.

Corrientes and the expansion of an environmental network
In the province of Corrientes, the initiative continues to grow through agreements with municipalities. Currently, there are 15 green points distributed in ten localities: Caá Catí, Esquina, Itatí, Lavalle, Saladas, San Cosme, Itá Ibaté, Empedrado, Paso de la Patria, and Riachuelo.
This deployment allows more and more residents to participate in the recycling circuit. Consequently, a territorial network is strengthened, linking citizenship, local governments, and the private sector.
In turn, the model promotes responsible habits that reduce pollution and promote the efficient use of resources.
The benefits of recycling oil for the environment and society
Recycling used vegetable oil provides multiple environmental benefits. Firstly, it prevents the contamination of large volumes of water, protecting aquatic ecosystems and sources of human consumption.
Furthermore, it helps to preserve soil quality, preventing its degradation and enhancing its productive capacity. This aspect is key to agricultural sustainability.
On the other hand, its transformation into biofuel reduces the dependence on fossil fuels. In this way, it decreases greenhouse gas emissions.
In summary, oil recycling not only mitigates negative impacts but also promotes sustainable solutions. Therefore, its incorporation as a daily habit represents a concrete step towards a more responsible environmental model.
