Prefecture confiscated illegal fishing gear in the Uruguay River: unauthorized nets and lines were found.

In a new deployment of control and surveillance in river waters, the Argentine Naval Prefecture based in La Cruz seized prohibited fishing equipment, valued at $644,400, during a patrol on kilometer 660.6 on the right bank of the Uruguay River.

The operation took place recently, when the personnel on board detected three fishing nets totaling 120 meters in length and seven trotlines reaching 210 meters with 49 hooks in total.

It is worth mentioning that no captured specimens were found in the removed items. All the material was taken to the local base of the Coast Guard, remaining at the disposal of the Directorate of Natural Resources of the Province of Corrientes, which acts within the framework of the current regulations on fishing and conservation of aquatic fauna.

Security reinforcement in riverside and border areas of the Uruguay River

During the first days of July, a widespread interinstitutional fluvial and terrestrial patrol operation was carried out in strategic sectors of the Uruguay River.

The action was part of a comprehensive plan coordinated by the Corrientes Police Headquarters, and executed by the Special Unit of Rural and Ecological Security of Santo Tomé and Alvear, along with members of the Tactical Operational Group (G.T.O.) and the High-Risk Police (P.A.R.).

The patrols focused on sensitive points such as Mbutu-y, Cuay Chico, Punta Piedra, Pariopá stream, and Santa Ana Island, opposite the Brazilian city of São Borja, with the aim of strengthening security in border areas, dissuading cattle rustling, smuggling, and clandestine fishing, and protecting rural producers and riverside communities.

As highlighted by the authorities, this form of periodic and coordinated control seeks to create a safer environment, ensure the tranquility of rural populations, and consolidate joint work with other provincial and national security forces.

The patrols will continue within the framework of a preventive security scheme in the border area, reinforcing the state’s presence in areas of high operational risk.
