The province of Santa Fe sanctioned two slaughterhouses for not complying with regulations on fishing below the minimum size

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Santa Fe carried out control operations in the southern and central provincial areas. As a result, multiple irregularities related to fishing were detected.

The inspections were conducted as part of the special plan for Holy Week. Additionally, they aimed to monitor practices affecting the sustainability of the fish resource.

In this context, captures below the minimum size were identified, along with a lack of documentation. Therefore, non-compliance with the current regulations was evident.

The Paraná River facing a persistent environmental crisis

The Paraná River has been experiencing a critical situation in recent years. Indeed, historical low water levels have altered the ecosystem balance.

Additionally, climate change and hydrological variability have intensified the problem. Consequently, the number of available adult specimens has decreased.

Moreover, the fish reproductive cycles have been affected. Therefore, the natural recovery of the resource is compromised.

In this scenario, illegal fishing exacerbates the pressure on species. Thus, it deepens the environmental deterioration.

Irregularities detected in Arroyo Seco and Coronda

In Arroyo Seco, a cold storage facility was found with more than 3,000 kilos of boga below the regulatory size. Additionally, it lacked documentation to certify its origin.

On the other hand, in Coronda, sabalos were found below the permitted size. Consequently, the lack of transit guides was also verified.

These infractions are covered under the Fishing Law No. 12.212. Therefore, they imply sanctions for those responsible.

Furthermore, the authorities emphasized the need to strengthen controls. In this way, they aim to discourage illegal practices.

Ecological consequences of fishing outside the norm

The capture of juvenile specimens prevents their reproduction. Consequently, it reduces the renewal of populations. Additionally, overexploitation alters the food chains. Therefore, it impacts the entire aquatic ecosystem.

Moreover, uncontrolled fishing reduces biodiversity. Thus, it weakens the environment’s resilience to climate changes.

On the other hand, illegal commercialization fosters informal markets. Consequently, it hinders the sustainable management of the resource.

The importance of Law No. 11.174 and the protection of the dorado

The Law No. 11.174 establishes the ban on commercial fishing of the dorado. In this sense, it seeks to protect one of the most emblematic species of the river.

Additionally, this regulation prohibits its capture for commercial purposes. Therefore, it promotes its long-term conservation.

Furthermore, the dorado plays a key role as a predator. Consequently, its preservation contributes to the ecological balance.

In this framework, the authorities reminded the validity of the measure. In this way, the importance of legal compliance is reinforced.

Strengthening controls in a key stage

With the arrival of Holy Week, the consumption of fish increases. Consequently, extractive and commercial activities intensify.

For this reason, the ministry will expand the operations on roads, rivers, and businesses. Additionally, it will include cold storage facilities and retail outlets.

Moreover, it aims to ensure responsible practices. In this way, it protects both the environment and local economies.

Ultimately, the challenge lies in balancing production and conservation. Thus, the future of the Paraná River will depend on sustained actions and collective commitment.
