The City of Buenos Aires continues transforming its nighttime landscape with an ambitious public lighting modernization plan. In December 2025, the city government will complete the technological renovation of 35,000 streetlights on streets and avenues, as well as the lighting enhancement in 85 parks, squares, and small plazas.
One of the most significant focuses this year is the Parque 3 de Febrero, where a comprehensive package of works is being executed that combines modernization, enhancement, and landscape beautification.
Lighting and security in an active city
“The City of Buenos Aires has a very active nightlife, cultural, commercial, and recreational scene. Improving lighting is improving security. These are interventions that impact the daily lives of those who live in the City and those who visit it,” stated Ignacio Baistrocchi, Minister of Public Space and Urban Hygiene.
The lighting improvement is part of the “Buenos Aires 24 hours” plan, which expands services, facilitates mobility, and reinforces hygiene and security during nighttime hours.
Technological replacement: more power in a 100% LED City
The Technological Replacement Plan renews the streetlights installed between 2013 and 2017 through a process that reuses existing casings and only replaces the LED panels and drivers with more modern and powerful technology.
- In 2025, 35,000 streetlights will be modernized in all communes.
- 29,400 replacements have already been made this year, added to the 7,100 from 2024.
- The city’s lighting system has more than 200,000 LED streetlights, reducing more than 50% of energy consumption compared to traditional ones.
The streetlights are monitored through a remote management system, which allows real-time status control and speeds up the response to malfunctions.

Safe Parks: 85 lighting works in green spaces
In parallel, the City is advancing with the Safe Parks plan, which includes 85 lighting works in parks, squares, and small plazas.
The goal is for residents to be able to use green spaces also at night with greater security: running, training, walking, or simply staying with peace of mind.
This year, streetlights were added in places where there were none before, existing lighting was enhanced, and lighting was reinforced around Safe Points, the emergency totems that speed up the request for help.
Among the spaces reached are the Parque Saavedra, Parque Lezama, Parque Avellaneda, Plaza Sicilia, Plaza Irlanda, and Plaza Islas Malvinas, among others.
Parque 3 de Febrero: comprehensive intervention until 2026
The Parque 3 de Febrero, one of the City’s most emblematic green spaces, is the focus of a comprehensive plan that will continue through 2026.
- Technological replacement of 1,500 higher power LED streetlights.
- Lighting enhancement on pedestrian paths and high-traffic areas, such as Plaza Croacia, Plaza Pakistán, and sections of Intendente Bullrich, Olleros, and Luis María Campos avenues.
- Landscape beautification with decorative lighting on the Puente Pacífico, the pergola of Plaza Egipto, the gazebo of Plaza Sicilia, and historical facades like the Sívori Museum and the Casa Berro (“El Tambito”).
These interventions aim to improve visibility, highlight historical structures, and enhance the park’s nighttime landscape.
The modernization of public lighting in Buenos Aires consolidates the City as a safer, more efficient, and sustainable space.
With a 100% LED system, plans like Safe Parks and the comprehensive intervention in the Parque 3 de Febrero, the city government is committed to an urban model that combines technology, energy savings, and public space beautification.
