After the devastating forest fire that affected more than 16,000 hectares of high ecological value, public use areas, and inhabited zones, the National Parks Administration (APN) continues to execute a strategic roadmap for the reconstruction of the Los Alerces National Park.
Planning and comprehensive management
Specialized technical teams from the Operations, Conservation, Public Use, Infrastructure, and Human Resources Departments worked intensively in the territory alongside the Intervention delegates. The main objective was to establish a action plan for the short, medium, and long term that allows:
-
Reorganizing the management structure of all departments of the protected area.
-
Articulating the institutional response with a comprehensive approach that considers both the emergency and long-term recovery.
Commitment to the community and tourism
Sergio Álvarez, president of the APN, emphasized that work in the park is a priority to restore normalcy: “This National Park, its inhabitants, and the tourism providers deserve to regain normalcy in a scenario of progressive improvement”.
The fundamental guidelines of this stage include:
-
Re-signification of the regional role: Strengthening the park as the main tourist attraction of the area.
-
Local linkage: Reaffirming the articulation with the local actors who have historically been linked to the area’s management.
-
Ecosystem restoration: Working on the sectors affected by the fire, prioritizing conservation and attention to the affected rural inhabitants.
This reconstruction process seeks not only to repair the immediate damages but also to lay the foundations for a more resilient management connected with the community that inhabits and lives off this natural environment.
