This certification, granted by B Lab, originated in 2006 in the United States and began its global expansion in 2012 with the foundation of Sistema B.

To date, the new economic system, the B Movement, encompasses 1,004,165 employees from 10,020 Certified B Companies in 103 nations.

“This achievement clearly demonstrates something: this way of conducting business, which originated thanks to a group of pioneers, is now part of the global business agenda,” stated Francisco Murray, Executive Director of Sistema B Internacional.

“Thousands of organizations and a large number of people prove that it is feasible to create companies that are profitable and competitive while simultaneously offering concrete solutions. It is not about philanthropy or a niche market: it is the structural and cultural transformation that the future demands.”

B Companies are distinguished by three fundamental traits for a new economic model

  • They establish a purpose, which is the footprint they aspire to leave on society and the world.
  • They make modifications to their bylaws to safeguard this purpose and legally commit to generating benefits not only for shareholders, but for all stakeholders (including employees, customers, the communities where they operate, and the environment).
  • They measure and manage their triple impact through a process of continuous improvement.
