YPF and Tesla seal alliance to deploy the first fast charging and energy storage network in Argentina

The national oil company YPF signed a letter of intent with Tesla, the giant of electric mobility led by Elon Musk, to deploy a network of fast charging and energy storage systems in Argentina.

The president and CEO of YPF, Horacio Marín, visited the Gigafactory in Texas in Austin, where the understanding was finalized.

This step positions YPF at the forefront of the regional energy transition and opens the door to the first large-scale fast and ultra-fast charging infrastructure in the country.

Objectives of the agreement

  • Fast charging network: high-power stations distributed in strategic corridors.
  • Storage systems: industrial lithium batteries to store energy during low demand hours and release it during peak consumption.
  • Technological integration: combination of Tesla’s hardware and software with YPF’s territorial network of more than 1,600 service stations.
  • Sustainable electromobility: chargers powered with clean energy from YPF Luz.

Impact and strategic benefits

  • Federal connectivity: corridors Buenos Aires–Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires–Córdoba/Rosario, and Buenos Aires–Mendoza (with international connection to Chile).
  • Logistical synergy: union of Tesla’s technology with YPF’s capillarity.
  • Automotive catalyst: reliable infrastructure that facilitates Tesla’s official entry and accelerates the adoption of electric vehicles.
  • Renewable integration: medium-term goal: supply chargers with 100% clean energy.

Technological projection

The agreement is not limited to electric mobility. It also includes:

  • Energy storage: battery solutions that improve the efficiency of electrical grids.
  • Data centers: possibility of multimillion-dollar investments to install data centers powered by renewable energy and backup systems.

Key statements

Horacio Marín emphasized that the integration of conventional physical networks with digital innovation is essential to maintain sector leadership.

Meanwhile, Tesla, represented by Michael Snyder, Vice President of Energy, highlighted the importance of combining local infrastructure with cutting-edge technology.

A step towards the energy transition

The YPF–Tesla alliance not only responds to the need for infrastructure for electric vehicles but also fits into a global context of energy transition. Argentina seeks to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and move towards a cleaner and more efficient model.

The incorporation of fast chargers and storage systems will allow:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Modernize national energy logistics.
  • Align the country with international trends in sustainable mobility.

The alliance between YPF and Tesla marks a milestone in the Argentine energy transition. By overcoming the main barrier to the adoption of electric vehicles—the lack of fast charging infrastructure—the agreement opens a new chapter in the country’s logistical and energy modernization.

With federal electric corridors, integration with renewable energies, and technological projection towards data centers, Argentina positions itself at the forefront of regional electromobility.
