In the Argentinian north, amidst the paradise of the Yungas of Jujuy, lies Santa Ana del Valle Grande, a small town of 700 inhabitants located 4,375 meters above sea level, ideal for tourism and popularly known as a hidden treasure that invites you to “walk in the sky.”
A Picturesque Village
Santa Ana del Valle Grande is a picturesque town situated in the middle of a valley, founded during colonial times. It stands out for its well-maintained adobe houses, coal roofs, and narrow gravel streets, giving it a rustic and charming look.
At first sight, Santa Ana del Valle Grande looks like a village taken from a postcard: surrounded by mountains and enveloped in a morning mist that gives it a mystical and picturesque atmosphere.
The main attraction of this paradise in the Yungas is the effect of “walking in the sky”, created by the fog and low clouds that form a white cotton-like blanket, covering the view of this small urbanization.
The Top Three Trails for “Walking in the Sky”
The main activity carried out by tourists in Santa Ana del Valle Grande is trekking. Here are three paths that allow you to “walk in the sky”:
- Inca Trail (Qhapaq Ñan): It is one of the main attractions in the area. This historic route, declared a World Heritage Site, connects Santa Ana with Valle Colorado. The local stretch covers about 2 kilometers and is ideal for trekking, offering spectacular views of the transition between the Puna and the Yungas, with sightings of condors and native flora.
- Mirador Abra del Zenta: Located at 4,376 meters above sea level, this viewpoint is famous for its “above the clouds” views. The phenomenon of the “cloud waterfall,” which occurs at sunrise and sunset, turns the place into a breathtaking natural spectacle.
- Trail to Valle Grande: A longer trekking route that connects Santa Ana with the town of Valle Grande. The journey passes through mountainous landscapes and high-altitude vegetation, with stops at various scenic viewpoints.
Santa Ana del Valle Grande is a perfect destination for those seeking a unique experience in contact with nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and in total harmony with the natural surroundings.
