With the aim of strengthening environmental awareness, the Villa de Merlo, in San Luis, promotes an outdoor educational experience with Interpretative Visits in the Viejo Molino Municipal Reserve, open to locals and tourists. Additionally, the initiative promotes a respectful relationship with the natural environment.
Through guided tours, participants explore the site and its biodiversity. In this way, they learn to recognize the ecological value of the local ecosystems. Thus, knowledge becomes a key tool for conservation.
The activities are carried out free of charge and are designed for all audiences. Therefore, they are an accessible option for families, students, and visitors. At the same time, they promote the responsible enjoyment of the protected areas.

The Viejo Molino Reserve and its environmental value
The reserve is located in the Piedra Blanca Arriba area and protects a centuries-old native forest. This natural environment functions as a green lung and a refuge for biodiversity. Additionally, it offers a recreational space with low environmental impact.
Behind the forest flows a crystal-clear stream that acts as a natural provincial boundary. This watercourse sustains the vegetation and wildlife of the area. Therefore, its preservation is essential for the ecosystem balance.
The site also preserves historical remains of an old hydraulic flour mill. These ruins coexist with vestiges of the region’s indigenous peoples. Thus, the reserve integrates natural, cultural, and historical heritage in one space.
Environmental education as a driver of conservation
During the visits, the guides explain how the local ecosystem functions. From this knowledge, the importance of protecting it is reinforced. In this way, the experience goes beyond a recreational walk.
The organizers emphasize that knowing the environment generates commitment. Therefore, they invite the community to actively participate in these proposals. Consequently, the reserve is consolidated as an open-air green classroom.
The visits take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00. The meeting point is the Casa del Bicentenario. Additionally, no prior registration is required, which facilitates participation.

How to get there and what ecotourism activities can be done
The Viejo Molino Reserve is located in Piedra Blanca Arriba, in Villa de Merlo. It can be accessed by private vehicle or local transport to the area. From there, the entrance is pedestrian and signposted.
Regarding ecotourism, the place is ideal for interpretative walks. Landscape observation and nature photography tours can also be done. These activities allow enjoyment without altering the environment.
