On the occasion of World Recycling Day, the Municipality of Guaymallén reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy, through various public policies and infrastructures aimed at the management and valorization of recyclable waste.

Thanks to sustained planning, the department positions itself as a model at the provincial and national levels in recycling matters, with pioneering programs such as the Inclusive Recycling Plan and the Mechanical Recycling Program for Used Tires (NFU).

Green Center: a pillar of the circular economy

One of the central axes of this policy is the Green Center, located at Santa Isabel street s/n in the El Sauce district.

There, recyclable materials such as plastic, cardboard, paper, glass, tetra pak, metals, and styrofoam are processed, thanks to the participation of urban recyclers who work in dignified conditions, with proper equipment, uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ongoing training.

This space also receives electronic waste (WEEE), batteries, and used vegetable oil (UVO), offering a safe and environmentally responsible reception point for these special waste.

Differentiated Management and Reuse of Special Waste

Guaymallén has a network of strategic points for the collection of WEEE, including Mendoza Plaza Shopping, Alto Dorrego Mall, and the Green Center itself.

Furthermore, through the provincial program for differentiated collection of batteries and batteries, these wastes are collected in supermarkets, delegations, and municipal offices.

Regarding used vegetable oil, it is collected from both residents and gastronomic establishments, and transformed into biofuel. For the gastronomic sector, actions are coordinated with specialized companies such as RBA Ambiental and DH-SH.

Tire Recycling: Guaymallén, a pioneer in Mendoza

Since 2018, the municipality is the only one in the province actively managing used tires (NFU), collecting them from tire shops and transportation companies for mechanical recycling. This process allows for the separation and reuse of rubber, steel, and nylon, reducing environmental pollution and generating green jobs.

Reuse of Green Waste

Waste management also extends to green waste, such as pruning and gardening residues, which are sent to companies producing bio-inputs and urban furniture. In exchange, the municipality receives agroecological inputs and furniture used in green spaces, promoting a model of circular and sustainable economy.

On World Recycling Day, an invitation to collective commitment

On this World Recycling Day, the Municipality of Guaymallén invites the entire community to continue actively participating in these actions that care for the environment, reduce the ecological impact, and promote a more sustainable future.

♻️ Recycling is an everyday act that generates significant changes.
