Recycling in Misiones: more than 7,000 kilograms of waste transformed

A comprehensive recycling program in Misiones has already brought successful results. The one carried out by the Municipality of Eldorado is becoming a key initiative for the circular economy in the city.

During last year, they transformed more than 7000 kilos of waste into valuable objects.

Among them, bags, aprons, and school kits are some of the objects that can be derived from the process.

In addition to the Differentiated Collection Program for Recyclables in Posadas, in other localities in the province, such as in Puerto Iguazú or Eldorado, this system is being promoted with results that aim to benefit the entire community.

Recycling waste better Recycling can be a source of livelihood.

This is the case of the Recycling Plan of Eldorado, which has its own space in the Industrial Park on Route 12, promoting environmental education, social integration, and circular economy.

“We would like other municipalities and entrepreneurs to take us as an example and see that with very little you can start. During the pandemic, we worked a lot with recycling for the forces, hospitals, all essential personnel, and the community in general,” stated Vanesa Vera, head of the Textile Design, Recycling, and Production Department of Eldorado, to El Territorio.

“Little by little, researching, we began to think about circular recycling, which is what we are doing now with the aim of also collaborating with the economy of neighbors, clubs, and companies through recycling, promoting that with very little you can do a lot,” she added.

Recycled waste

In 2024, the Recycle Plan processed more than 7000 kilos of plastic and textile waste:

  • 4000 eco-shopping bags.
  • 700 aprons made from recycled banners.
  • 350 eco-pet houses made from textile waste from Dass Company and Edificando Cooperative.
  • 500 eco-shoe bags and shin guards made from tetrapak.
  • Reusable eco-diapers made from umbrella fabrics for adults.
  • 800 backpacks with school kits.
  • 2000 eco-bags and fused plastic wrappers.
  • Eco-bricks and first aid kits.
  • 600 polar sets for winter.
  • Sensory educational games donated to schools.

According to the local government, the economic value generated in this period was estimated at $38 million.

Collection program: “Ecopoints”

In Misiones, there is a total of 33 strategic recycling points distributed in 13 municipalities.

They are the “Ecopoints”, with which the province works to promote new habits of responsible consumption.
