A public denouncement of the increasing contamination by sewage in Salta gained more attention in recent weeks.
It is claimed that these are waste thrown from San José de Pocitos and Yacuiba, two Bolivian cities located on the border, directly into the Quebrada Internacional.
As a result, it directly affects the city of Salvador Mazza in the local province.

According to local media reports, both Bolivian cities carry out a poor management of their sewage waste, which ends up in the watercourse that divides both countries.

As detailed by ElTribuno, during rainy seasons, the increase in flow carries sewage waste, resulting in a serious contamination problem for the neighborhoods.
The inhabitants have been living with this problem for a long time without an effective solution from the authorities.
Although provincial legislators of Salta have filed complaints with consular and bilateral bodies on several occasions, they have not received concrete responses.
“All that contamination coming from the border towns of Bolivia flows into the Quebrada (Yacuiba and Pocitos streams),” said deputy Gladys Paredes, representative of the San MartÃn department.
The complaints persist despite, in 2022, one of the complaints filed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship.
At the time, the Undersecretariat of Inspection and Environmental Restoration, and the Directorate of Quality and Environmental Restoration of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development took water samples for evaluation.
