In a coordinated action, the Government of the province of Entre Ríos, through the Secretariat of Environment, and the Municipality of Paraná carried out a judicial procedure at the waste deposit, property of the company “Las 3E S.R.L.”, located in the provincial capital.
The procedure was carried out in strict compliance with an order issued by Judge Gabriela Teresita Mastaglia, a member of the Appeals Chamber II of Paraná. This intervention is part of an environmental protection amparo process initiated by local residents against the company, commonly known as “Todoni scrapyard“.
The judge had previously ordered the technical survey and seizure of the waste accumulated at the plant, appointing the Municipality as the custodian of the waste.

On the 18th of this month, a delegation composed of provincial officials, municipal authorities, technical staff from both levels of government, and judicial officials appeared at the facility.
During the inspection, a large volume of waste of various types was verified, including some classified as hazardous.
The purpose of the survey was to quantify and classify, in as detailed a manner as possible, the accumulated waste over the years. This step is necessary to provide a technical opinion that supports the implementation of the proposed removal plan by the commercial company, which is a requirement to comply with the court order.
It is important to emphasize that this procedure is the culmination of a lengthy and protracted legal process initiated by the residents themselves. They decided to take the case to court in order to find a definitive solution to the environmental issue and the adverse impacts on people’s health.

Historic Family Business in Paraná Accused of Accumulating Hazardous Waste
The scrapyard belongs to a historic and recognized family in Paraná. It has been operating for over 50 years and, like other activities, became “trapped” within the urban fabric as it expanded.
Its owners never environmentally adapted their working methods, which led the neighbors to resort to legal action.
Currently, the Todoni family faces a case in federal court for non-compliance with the hazardous waste law.
Additionally, they are facing another case in provincial court for repeated disobedience to court orders, as they did not comply with the request to cease activity, remove the waste from the premises, and carry out the necessary environmental restoration.
