The Government of Brazil, together with the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), leads the **first Global Summit on Energy Planning**, called **Global Energy Planning Summit**.

The event, held on June 3 and 4 at the main headquarters of the Brazilian Development Bank (Bndes) in Rio de Janeiro, served to officially launch the **Global Coalition for Energy Planning**.

This initiative is a central pillar of the Brazilian presidency of the G20 in 2024. The objective is to reduce the **investment gap in renewable energies** between:

## Challenges and opportunities in energy investment
According to **Francesco La Camera**, Director-General of **Irena**, emerging markets have **huge investment opportunities**, although they face a **risk perception** that discourages private investors.

*”Brazil has shown that long-term energy planning, coupled with investment attraction strategies, can reduce these risks. Encouraging private financing and strengthening local supply chains,”* stated **La Camera**.

Through the **Global Coalition**, Irena will utilize its **broad network of members** and **expertise in energy planning** to assist countries in the **Global South**.

## Brazil strengthens its leadership in energy transition
The Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil, **Alexandre Silveira**, emphasized that a **fair and effective energy transition** requires recognizing the **central role of developing countries**.

*”Brazil reaffirms its commitment to multilateral dialogue and the strengthening of tools that link strategic planning, public policies, and sustainable financing, with the aim of building a more inclusive energy future,”* declared **Silveira**.

## Summit objectives and next steps
The **Global Summit on Energy Planning** will bring together:
– Experts in energy planning.
– Finance ministers.
– International organizations.

The meeting is expected to generate:
– Agreements on strategic priorities.
– A roadmap for global coordination.
– Identification of partners committed to the initiative.

According to **Irena**, the **two key objectives** of the summit will be:
1. **Reduce risks** and facilitate investment in renewable energies.
2. **Strengthen political commitment** to planning as a tool for sustainable development.

## Declaration of principles and international commitment
During the summit, the **founding members of the Global Coalition for Energy Planning** will sign a **Declaration of Principles**, establishing their **shared priorities** and **long-term vision**.

This meeting marks a **crucial advancement** in international cooperation to drive a **more equitable and sustainable energy transition**, laying the groundwork for a new era in global planning of the **energy sector**.
