BYD accelerates solid-state battery development: promises 1800 km of range and aims for production in 2030.

The Chinese automotive giant **BYD** is decisively moving towards the [energy revolution](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/espana-el-patentamiento-de-vehiculos-electricos-crecera-un-49-este-ano/). The company announced that **it is already conducting field tests with solid-state batteries**, a technology that could **multiply the range of electric vehicles up to 1,875 kilometers**, according to the CLTC homologation cycle.

The revelation was made by Sun Huajun, technical director of BYD’s battery division, during the **China 2025 Solid-State Battery Innovation and Development Summit**. There, he confirmed that **prototypes equipped with this technology are already undergoing real-world testing**, although the model was not specified. The speculation about whether it is the **BYD SEAL** was denied by the company.

## High Density, Increased Safety, and Quick Charging

The new batteries achieve an **energy density of 400 Wh/kg**, almost double that of the current [lithium-ion batteries](https://noticiasambientales.com/residuos/la-provincia-de-buenos-aires-y-la-unlp-reciclaran-baterias-de-litio/). This advancement results in:
– **Range of 1,500 km with just 12 minutes of charging (80%)**
– Estimated total potential of **up to 1,875 km (CLTC)** or **1,300 km in EPA cycle**

These figures position solid-state technology as one of the **key pillars of the new generation of electric mobility**, replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid one, **improving safety, thermal stability, and energy efficiency**.

## From Labs to the Streets: Implementation Roadmap

BYD has been conducting **over a decade of research** in this area. By 2024, it already had **experimental cells of 20 and 60 Ah**, and currently:
– Vehicle testing will conclude in **2027**
– Initial production is planned between **2027 and 2029**
– **Industrial scaling** is expected in 2030, with costs comparable to current lithium batteries

## Global Race for Technological Leadership

BYD is not alone. The **global race to dominate the solid-state battery market** also includes:
– **Nissan**, planning its first model in **2028**
– **Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, CATL, and Stellantis**, with active research lines

Meanwhile, BYD continues to diversify its portfolio with low-cost models like the **Seagull** (Dolphin Surf in Europe), experiencing significant growth in **monthly registrations in Europe and the UK**, even surpassing **Tesla** in several markets.

## Regional Production and Expansion Strategy

In Latin America, the company plans to **soon start local vehicle assembly in Brazil**, specifically at **the Camaçari plant (Bahia)**.

This step marks the beginning of a broader regional industrialization strategy.
