The province of La Pampa added a new protected area with the official inauguration of the Urban Natural Reserve “El Arenal”, located in the town of Gobernador Duval.

The event took place as part of the city’s 118th anniversary and represents a concrete step forward in the conservation of the regional biodiversity.

A new natural reserve for the Pampa biodiversity

The Minister of Government and Municipal Affairs, Pascual Fernández, led the ceremony alongside Mayor María Eugenia Grazide.

The event was also attended by the Undersecretary of Environment, Mónica Álvarez Redondo, and the Director of Biodiversity Conservation and Protected Areas, Martín Zunino.

These municipally owned areas preserve natural features of educational, tourist, and environmental interest.

What the new Natural Reserve in La Pampa is like

The Urban Natural Reserves are notable for their proximity to urban areas.

This makes them strategic spaces to strengthen the bond between the community and its natural environment.

If managed properly, they can become important refuges for native species.

The Urban Reserve “El Arenal seeks to provide a framework of legal protection that ensures its sustainability and improvement in the long term.

The area is projected as a refuge for biodiversity, a symbol of connection with the land, the river, and history.

It is also conceived as a space to preserve with a sustainable and respectful view of the environment.

The objectives of the new reserve in La Pampa

From the Province, they pointed out that “among the objectives of its creation, are: promoting environmental education and interpretation.”

Another objective is “to highlight the ecosystem services provided by the native natural environment.”

The authorities also emphasized the intention to “revalue the historical and cultural values, especially those linked to the Ranquel culture.”

The program also seeks to “promote research, training, and education around the environment and conservation.”

The importance for the local community

The natural reserve represents a concrete commitment to the preservation of nature in La Pampa.

The space strengthens the promotion of a harmonious relationship between the community and its environment.

Gobernador Duval thus incorporates a new protected area that will benefit both the native fauna and local inhabitants.

The proximity to the urban area facilitates the population’s access to environmental education activities and nature tourism.

Additionally, the inauguration of “El Arenal” marks a milestone in the management of protected areas at the municipal level in the province.

This type of urban reserves allows for the combination of conservation with the responsible public use of the territory.

The model promotes community participation in the care of its natural and cultural heritage.

The initiative positions Gobernador Duval as a leader in the conservation of natural spaces within the urban context of La Pampa.
