The rural proposal that turns old train cars into eco-friendly shelters near Buenos Aires

With the arrival of warm days, the search for quiet and accessible spaces becomes a priority for those who wish to rest without embarking on long trips. In this context, a corner of Buenos Aires has begun to gain recognition for combining rural tourism, recycling, and nature, becoming an ecological refuge.

This is Bavio, in the district of Magdalena, a place that offers the possibility of staying in restored railway carriages with sustainable criteria. Located 90 kilometers from the City of Buenos Aires, Bavio retains the identity of the Buenos Aires towns and a strong connection with its railway past.

This same heritage is now the core of a tourist proposal that combines history, design, and respect for the environment. On a 21-hectare estate, the recycled carriages have been transformed into accommodations for those seeking a different kind of rest.

Carriages Reborn: A Rural Experience with Low Environmental Impact

The initiative was born from the desire to change life and bet on a more conscious tourism. The old carriages were refurbished as small homes equipped with a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and gallery.

Each one retains details that evoke its origin but is integrated into a natural environment that invites relaxation. The complex, called Los Dos Vagones, offers a calm setting in the middle of the countryside, where sustainable architecture and material recovery define its identity.

The goal is to show how unused elements can regain value and become functional spaces without generating additional waste. This ecological perspective permeates the entire project, from design to site management.

In addition to the carriages, the estate includes a cabin in the middle of the forest, a loft-style house by the lagoon, and rolling glampings that allow sleeping under the stars. Each accommodation seeks to generate a direct connection with the rural landscape. The proposal is complemented by workshops, outdoor activities, and wellness experiences.

Nature, Wellness, and Responsible Activities

The stay can be booked for one or several days and incorporates services oriented towards conscious rest. The site houses two pools, an Australian tank adapted as a swimming pool, a lagoon with a dock, and a forest ideal for gentle walks.

Accommodation includes breakfast and free snacks during the day, maintaining the logic of responsible consumption. Activities include horse-assisted therapies, heart coherence experiences, massages, and holistic proposals.

Special events are also organized, such as wine tastings, themed retreats, or field days with regional products. The complex is pet-friendly and designed exclusively for adults seeking deep connection experiences with nature.

Additionally, the area invites you to explore nearby towns, natural reserves, and spaces of heritage value. Among them are Magdalena, Atalaya, the Parque Costero del Sur, and the Reserva El Destino. These are options that allow complementing the stay with cultural tours and activities for observing native fauna and flora.

Benefits of Ecotourism: A Way of Traveling that Cares for Nature

Ecotourism has established itself as a sustainable alternative that benefits both visitors and the territories where it develops. Its principles are based on conservation, environmental education, and respect for local communities.

In rural destinations like Bavio, this modality helps to value natural resources and reduce the impact of traditional tourism. One of its main advantages is the promotion of practices that reduce emissions and waste.

It also fosters the local economy by promoting small-scale enterprises that generate employment and strengthen cultural identity. Additionally, it favors experiences of direct contact with the natural environment, which improves the emotional well-being and environmental awareness of travelers.

When well managed, ecotourism contributes to the preservation of fragile ecosystems. It encourages the responsible use of water and energy and promotes the protection of native species. Thus, it becomes a bridge between personal enjoyment and ecological responsibility.

The Different Forms of Ecotourism: Options for Traveling with a Positive Impact

Ecotourism includes various modalities that adapt to each person’s interests. One of them is rural tourism, which allows you to learn about communities, productive practices, and agricultural landscapes in harmony with nature.

Accommodations in recycled carriages are an example of this category, where design and sustainability integrate with the environment. Another form is responsible adventure tourism, which proposes activities like hiking, horseback riding, or kayaking with a low-impact approach

There is also scientific ecotourism, oriented towards bird watching, wildlife photography, or participation in environmental projects. These practices foster the appreciation of ecosystems and environmental education.

Finally, regenerative tourism is advancing as a trend that seeks not only to avoid damage but to improve the places visited. It includes reforestation, soil conservation, or support for community projects. It is a modality that transforms the traveler into an active actor in environmental care.
