During May, Argentina commercially enabled four new renewable energy projects, contributing 59 MW to the national interconnected system.
In a month marked by low temperatures and an 11.1% increase in electricity demand, renewables covered 17% of the total demand, consolidating their strategic role in the energy transition.
The new projects
- Parque Eólico Arauco II (La Rioja): the largest contribution of the month, with 50 MW of installed capacity under the Dec 476 contractual modality.
- Parque Solar Lincoln I (Buenos Aires): added 20 MW of photovoltaic solar energy, enabled under the RenMDI program.
- Central P.S. San Rafael (Mendoza): incorporated 7 MW of solar power under the Renewable Energy Term Market modality.
- CTBM Generadora Ituzaingó (Corrientes): biomass plant that contributed 2 MW initially, with a total target of 180 MW.
Performance of the electrical system
- Renewable PPA generation contributed 1,076 GWh (8.5% of the total supply).
- Renewable MAT generation injected 829 GWh (6.6% of the total).
- Together, renewables covered 17% of the national electricity demand.
- Total consumption was 12,151 GWh, driven by average temperatures of 13.5 °C, 3.2 °C lower than the same month of the previous year.

Benefits of renewable energies in Argentina
Environmental care: they produce almost zero greenhouse gases, reducing pollution and combating climate change.
Utilization of natural resources:
- Patagonia: strong and constant winds ideal for wind farms.
- Northwest Argentina: intense solar radiation that favors photovoltaic energy.
Job creation and local economy: the installation and maintenance of solar panels and wind turbines create thousands of jobs and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.
Access to remote areas: solar panels allow electrification of rural communities without the need for large distribution networks.
A step towards the energy transition
The incorporation of these projects reflects the national strategy to diversify the energy matrix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Argentina has enormous potential in natural resources that, if well utilized, can turn the country into a regional leader in clean energies.
Moreover, the growth of renewables strengthens energy security, reduces vulnerability to international fuel crises, and opens investment opportunities in green infrastructure.
The enabling of four new complexes in May reinforces Argentina’s commitment to the energy transition.
The contribution of 59 MW and the coverage of 17% of the demand with renewable sources show that the country is moving towards a more sustainable model, with environmental, economic, and social benefits.
