Illegal slaughterhouse case detected in Entre Ríos: over 100 kilos of meat seized and native birds rescued

A complaint for illegal slaughter in Colonia Ensayo, Entre Ríos, triggered a police investigation that ended with seizure of meat and even a bird rescue.

Following the initial alert, authorities carried out simultaneous raids in Oro Verde and Paraná.

The operation, led by the Cattle Theft Brigades of Diamante and Paraná, allowed for the seizure of more than 100 kilos of beef. Additionally, they identified the suspects.

Illegal Slaughter in Entre Ríos: the Complaint that Triggered the Investigation

The case began after a rural producer’s complaint, reporting the illegal slaughtering of two animals on his field located on the border with Oro Verde. According to the report, it involved a 250-kilo black heifer and a 260-kilo Pampa bull.

Through rastreos, testimonies, and footprint tracking, investigators built a hypothesis pointing to neighbors of the Paraná department as alleged perpetrators.

Raids in Oro Verde and Paraná

In a house in Oro Verde, the Police of Entre Ríos finally found meat cuts with grass, dirt, and hair residues. Additionally, they had a mincer, cameras, and refrigerators used for illegal slaughter.

In the second house, located in Paraná, they seized 4 kilos of meat pulp under similar conditions. All the meat was denatured for not being suitable for human consumption, a process recorded in videos and photographs.

The suspects are two adult men with a work relationship between them. Both were identified and will be criminally charged in the case of “illegal slaughter” and also for keeping birds in captivity.

During one of the operations, the brigade members also found 30 native birds in cage traps and rudimentary shelters. Among them were 22 red-crested cardinals, a brown-and-yellow marshbird, mixed birds, rufous-bellied thrushes, a white-beaked tanager, and a black-crowned tanager. The specimens were handed over to honorary gamekeeper Bruno García, who will assess their condition for release back into their natural habitat.
