The abandonment of dogs in Rosario, Santa Fe reaches alarming levels. This situation has generated a true crisis that worries animal rescuers, shelters, and local authorities.

Groups like Independent Animal Rescuers (RIA) report daily cases of run over, sick, and abandoned dogs in the streets by their own owners.

Why has dog abandonment increased

The increase in dog abandonment in Rosario is attributed to various factors. Among them, the economic crisis affecting many families, hindering access to food, veterinary care, and other essential care for pets.

This situation has led many people to abandon their dogs instead of seeking alternatives such as adoption or responsible delivery to other families or shelters.

The economic factor is usually crucial when these statistics start to rise. Adding an animal companion is indeed rewarding, and day by day tends to improve, but it also entails responsibility.

This implies taking care not only of their feeding, but also basic healthcare or various attentions.

Critical situation: the rescuers’ plea for help

Sandra Fantini, a member of RIA, informed local media that they are currently handling around 20 active cases, including three run-over dogs requiring urgent surgery and a pregnant female with eight rescued puppies from the street.

In addition, animals with scabies, malnutrition, and bite wounds were found. “The amount we find day by day is terrible,” Fantini expressed in a conversation with the program De boca en boca from Radio 2.

Despite the growing demand for help, available resources are limited. RIA and other organizations largely depend on the collaboration of volunteer veterinarians and the solidarity of the community.

Therefore, they urgently request the collaboration of citizens through donations of food, medicines, funds for surgeries, and especially foster homes for rescued animals.

Those willing and able to collaborate can contact RIA through their Instagram account or WhatsApp at 341-5147-900.

Additionally, an economic donation can be made through the alias Mercado Pago: sandra.fantini.
