On August 26 and 27, 2025, the city of Buenos Aires will host a new plenary meeting of the Technical Committee 152 (CT 152) of the Inter-American Standards Commission (Copant), dedicated to Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies.
The event will gather technical delegations from countries in the Americas, consolidating a key space for regional cooperation in energy standardization.
Return to face-to-face meetings and new technical headquarters
After several years of remote work due to the pandemic, CT 152 will resume its face-to-face modality at the headquarters of the Federation of Industrial Chambers of Household Appliances of the Argentine Republic (Fedehogar).
In this edition, the Argentine Institute of Standardization and Certification (IRAM) will assume the Technical Secretariat of the committee for the first time, succeeding Brazil, which held that role since the creation of CT 152 in 2003.
This change represents a strategic position for Argentina in the process of regional harmonization of technical standards, reflecting the sustained commitment of the national delegation to the committee’s agenda.
A regional space to agree on standards and share experiences
CT 152 was established in 2003 and has held meetings in different countries across the continent, becoming a reference forum in energy efficiency. Over the years, the committee has promoted:
- Exchange of experiences among countries
- Development of standardization proposals
- Seeking consensus on common criteria in energy labeling of electrical products, such as appliances, refrigeration equipment, and lighting

Harmonization of test methods and transparency for end users
Since 2013, the committee has been working on unifying technical criteria following international standards.
One of CT 152’s most significant achievements was the agreement to harmonize test methods, preferably aligned with international standards, and standardize minimum information requirements on labels. This approach ensures:
- Transparency in communication
- Objectivity in product evaluation
- Comparability among technologies and brands
Active participation and Argentine leadership in the technical agenda
The appointment of IRAM as the Technical Secretariat is the result of active and sustained participation of national actors such as Fedehogar and its Chambers, along with other organizations and institutions.
This recognition positions Argentina as a regional leader in building technical standards that promote energy efficiency and sustainability.
