Forecast in the AMBA: southern wind without rain and temperature drop for the weekend

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) anticipates for the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) a marked climatic variability. Although significant rains are not expected, the entry of a cold front will change conditions towards the weekend.

Weekly Balance and Transition

This Thursday, the last day of April, presents a stable scenario with temperatures between 8°C and 23°C and light winds from the south sector. On Friday, May 1st, the minimum will rise to 15°C and the maximum will reach 25°C, maintaining a low probability of precipitation (0% to 10%).

However, towards the end of Friday, an intense cold front will advance over the center of the country. This will cause:

  • Wind rotation towards the south sector.

  • Temporary instability with possible isolated rains.

  • Intensification of gusts during the night.

Weather for the Long Weekend

Saturday will mark the strongest change with a significant thermal drop:

  • Temperatures: Minimum of 10°C and maximum of 18°C.

  • Winds: Alert for gusts between 42 and 50 km/h, which will reduce the thermal sensation.

Sunday will remain cool, with a minimum of 7°C and a maximum of 18°C, but with clear skies and no rain, ideal for outdoor activities.

Trend for Next Week

From Monday, May 4th to Wednesday, May 6th, moderate temperatures are expected (minimums from 12°C to 16°C and maximums of 22°C). The sky will be mostly cloudy, maintaining general stability in the region.

Situation in the Province of Buenos Aires

  • Northern Buenos Aires: Fog banks are recorded, so extreme caution is recommended when driving.

  • Atlantic Coast: On Friday, a windy front is expected from Bahía Blanca to Pinamar.

  • Southeast: Saturday will be unstable with rains between Necochea and San Clemente del Tuyú, and strong winds in towns like Tandil and Balcarce.

Snow Alerts in the South of the Country

The SMN issued a yellow alert for snowfalls for the northwest of Chubut. Given the risk of activity interruptions, authorities recommend:

  • Driving with vehicles prepared for ice and snow.

  • Checking roofs and drains to withstand the accumulation of snow.

  • Ensuring home ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

  • Having an emergency kit and a reserve of non-perishable food.
