Last Tuesday, the Dr. Emilio Civit Congress and Exhibition Center in the City of Mendoza was the venue for the Youth Forum on Just Energy Transition.
The event brought together a hundred young people aged between 18 and 35, who engaged in dialogue and collaboration with provincial authorities, representatives from the private sector, and members of the academic community.
The objective was to analyze, with concrete data, clear goals and defined responsibilities, the immediate opportunities in strategic areas such as hydroelectric power, energy efficiency, and innovation.
The event was attended by Mayor Ulpiano Suarez and other important figures from the provincial and business sectors.
This forum is part of the “Youth Energy” project, an initiative promoted by the Wuppertal Institute, the Siemens Foundation, and the organization 500RPM, with technical support from the Sustainability Without Borders Foundation (SSF).
Driving the energy transition
This project includes the organization of provincial forums in Chubut, Mendoza, and Neuquén, conceived as spaces for dialogue and collective action. The aim is to accelerate the implementation of projects that not only reduce carbon emissions, but also generate employment, by coordinating local governments, companies, and universities.
The opening session was led by Mayor Ulpiano Suarez, accompanied by the province’s Deputy Secretary of Environment, Nuria Ojeda, and the Deputy Secretary of Education, Claudia Ferrari.
Teams from the Government of Mendoza and various representatives from the local energy ecosystem were also present.
The agenda of the event included an initial panel on the province’s energy matrix and challenges, followed by another panel focused on green jobs and the fundamental role of youth.
Finally, a participatory workshop on the energy transition was held, where attendees collaborated to develop specific proposals, which were later presented to the authorities and representatives in attendance.
Benefits and opportunities for participating youth
As an incentive, the young people who attended the forum had the opportunity to apply for a mentoring program at Siemens Energy, specifically designed to enhance their professional development in the fields of energy and sustainability.
Additionally, it was announced that from all participants of the three provincial forums (Chubut, Mendoza, and Neuquén), one young person will be selected to join the delegation traveling to COP30 in Belém, Brazil. This representative will attend the UN climate summit alongside members of the Siemens Foundation, 500RPM, SSF, and the Wuppertal Institute.
