Misiones’ plan to preserve its native wildlife: the province advances with a new regulatory framework

The Ministry of Ecology and Renewable Natural Resources of Misiones held a key meeting to advance the preservation of wildlife in the province.

The meeting, held at the Salto Encantado Provincial Park, brought together key players in the provincial conservation efforts.

There, work was done on a resolution project to organize and update the management of wildlife.

The proposal aims to more effectively regulate all activities related to wildlife in the Misiones territory.

In particular, the project includes modifications to a previous version and establishes a unified regulatory framework to improve supervision and control.

The biologist Matías Fernández, from the OHANA Foundation, explained the structure of the project during the day.

His presentation detailed the main axes of the future resolution, which includes the precise classification of the different actors managing wildlife in Misiones.

Among the regulated actors are bioparks, breeding centers, rescue centers, shops, and aquariums.

In particular, the project establishes differentiated technical requirements for their authorization and defines clear mechanisms of control and supervision for each category.

The regulation also determined the requirements for inspectors of the enforcement authority.

Additionally, it defined the qualified professionals required at each stage of the processes, depending on the type of institution working with wildlife in Misiones.

Digital tools and working groups

During the meeting, the mobile application project “Epicollect5” was presented, a digital tool intended for the registration of wildlife rescues.

This platform will be integrated into the Environmental Observatory of the Secretariat of Territorial Planning.

Franco García Sosa along with Virginia Solano, representatives of the Undersecretariat of Ecology and Sustainable Development, coordinated the working group on this matter.

This space allowed attendees to analyze the document, make contributions, and suggest modifications to the project text.

The projected regulation also establishes a reasonable timeframe for the mandatory adaptation of actors in irregular situations.

This measure seeks to gradually organize the institutions interacting with wildlife in Misiones, but without causing abrupt disruptions.

The objectives of the new wildlife regulation in Misiones

  • Homogenization of evaluation criteria
  • Increase in transparency in administrative processes
  • Creation of an organized link between the State and institutions
  • Consideration of territorial planning aspects
  • Management of watersheds in relation to biodiversity

The regulation also considered the protection of biodiversity as a transversal axis.

The project seeks to establish an integral regulatory framework that links the management of wildlife in Misiones with territorial and water aspects.

The day concluded with the signing of a meeting record by the attendees.

The list of guests reflected an inter-institutional and comprehensive approach to the preservation of Misiones wildlife.
